Link to Lac Mégantic and Piopolis. 100% road
Short description
This is a great road loop. The roads are good, not too busy, and to the extent there is traffic (between Scotstown and Lac-Mégantic, and also some – generally less – between Lac-Mégantic and Piopolis) the roads have decent shoulders.
This is a challenging ride I enjoy. There is virtually no flat road on this ride (except for the last 14km), but the hills are typically short and sharp, with a pleasant (and long) downhill run into Lac Mégantic (km 28 to 36, descending at 2-3% but apparently flat: how pleasant to cruise at 40 km/h feeling like a pro!).
It is possible to throw the Mont-Mégantic in as one rides past the road that leads to it, at km 69. I find this ride tough enough without a cherry on the top…
There is a diner (check hours!) in Milan (km 18), a small store at the intersection in Nantes (km 28), some garages as one veers past Lac-Mégantic (km 36), and a store and café in Piopolis (km 50 +2 – one needs to go past the turn towards Val-Racine and ride a further 2km into the village).
There is also a store at Notre-dame-des-Bois, and a store and restaurant at la Patrie.
